12 Hours of What?
Performance, Jerzy Grotowski Institute, 2025

The performance was realised during the second edition of the Laboratory of Perception (2025) at the Jerzy Grotowski Institute in Wrocław under the guidance of an international group of performance art practitioners (including BBB Johannes Deimling, Yann Marussich, Paula Garcia, and Paul Harrison & John Wood). During the twelve-hour continuous performance, I inventoried my collection of found objects with holes. I have been assembling this collection since mid-2023; at the time of the event it consisted of over two thousand objects. During the performance I catalogued 116 objects using specially prepared “found object cards”. Each individual card consisted of the following fields: (1) ref. no.; (2) dimensions; (3) weight; (4) material; (5) colour; (6) notes; (7) outline.

The found object cards produced during the performance were later used for a re-performance that I carried out in December 2025 as part of the work on my MA diploma project {magpie feather, sea glass, key, …, ∞}. During this re-performance I relocated the same 116 perforated objects, which had previously been mixed with other items in the collection; then—selecting a group of 87 objects—I photographed them and measured them again according to three new parameters: (1) depth; (2) internal ∅; and (3) external ∅. As a result of this process, a new template for the found object card was created, which I used to develop one chapter of my artist’s book presented at the MA exhibition. The book took the form of a cabinet in the shape of a pedestal with four drawers, its design inspired by the card-catalogue cabinets formerly used in libraries. In one of the drawers I placed a transcribed and expanded fragment of the “record” of my twelve-hour performance in Wrocław.
